Community Educator
Wanting to reach out past her personal domestic realm, Stella runs a variety of workshops in community contexts. Her workshops are warm, welcoming, and rooted in the values of curiosity, sustainability, and lifelong learning. Through gentle guidance and a spirit of exploration, Stella invites participants to slow down, make thoughtfully, and discover the powerful change that can emerge from everyday creative practice.
Her sustainable lifestyle classes are tailored to her teaching context and range from the practical to more ideas-based learning.
Stella’s textile workshops focus on repurposing second hand fabrics and fibres and invite people to rediscover the joy that making with our hands can bring. They also give people the skills to make rather than mindlessly buy. Stella is passionate about fostering supportive, community-minded workshops that honour the long history of sewing as a social practice.
In all her workshops, Stella crafts not only objects, but also connection, creating relational spaces that reverberate past the walls of the classroom.

Doodling with Thread Embroidery
If embroidery is drawing with thread, then this workshop is all about doodling designs and having fun with colour and line. Explore with different fibres and threads to achieve a variety of textures and lines. Students will learn 10 embroidery stitches while also having the space to socialise and stitch. Clean & Care Green Cleaning Workshop
Join Stella for an afternoon learning how sustainable action can start at home. Act on the awareness that there is a different way to clean and care for our homes. Become aware of the dangers of greenwashing and how to identify commercial products that are safer for both people and planet. Feel empowered by knowing exactly what is in your cleaning products by learning how to make your own from simple kitchen ingredients. Class held at Hataitai Community House.

Not Your Nana’s Embroidery
Engage with a traditional artform in a new contemporary context as you explore free form embroidery. Apply upcycling principles and an awareness of textile waste to create a unique piece of art. Build on the idea of eco-textiles and slow stitching as a movement and make the whole item by hand. Class held at Karori Arts & Crafts Centre.
